Sumter Makes Animal Abuse Arrest

Sumter, SC (WLTX) -  Sumter County police have arrested a man after they say they found mistreated pit bulls on his property.

Jamie Shaw, 36, is facing a charge of ill treatment of animals.

Detectives said they made the arrest while working in partnership with Valiant Animal Rescue and Relief, a non-profit agency dedicated to helping authorities in the Carolinas investigate animal cruelty cases.

Officers say they found three pit bull dogs on his property that had their ears cut off by someone. Several kennels were found, as well as dog remains, but the nature of those deaths has not been determined. One adult pit bull was found alive and taken to the Sumter County Animal Shelter.

The investigation into the case is continuing.
