Sumter Shooter. Victims Were Childhood Friends

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - The man accused of shooting two other men and injuring a woman in Sumter County Wednesday morning was arrested after an hour long manhunt.

Charles Gary Singletary III, 18, fled the scene through a window, Dennis said in a Wednesday press conference. To find him, deputies called in blood hounds and helicopters from SLED.

"They found two victims. Both have received gun shot wounds to the head. The third victim had a laceration to her ear," said Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis. "We believe that gunshot wound might have occurred by a sharp object or by a gunshot wound also."

Dennis says Joshua Brown, 18, died in the shooting. He says Timothy Hodge, 18, is in critical condition. Hodge's mother was also injured during the incident.

Investigators say they haven't identified a motive but say Singletary recently began distancing himself at school and showing erratic behavior.

and went to Lakewood High School together, investigators say.

"She did not know that Mr. Singletary or Mr. Joshua Brown were in the residence," Dennis said. "They were friends of her son who was Timothy Hodge. Talking with her, she says she forbid Mr. Singletary from coming back to the residence again. She had some problems with him in the past. He had demonstrated some erratic behavior."

Singletary goes before a judge Thursday morning. He's charged with murder, attempted murder, and assault.
