Sumter Students Heading to International Competition

Sumter, SC (WLTX)- A team of third and fourth grade girls will soon be representing our state in an international competition.

Six students from St. Anne Catholic School in Sumter won the regional Destination Imagination Tournament in Flat Rock, North Carolina at the end of March.

They will be heading to Knoxville, Tennessee on May 21st for the global finals.

"My role is just saying facts and being wise and stuff like that," said Ella Allen.

Allen is a third grade student at St. Anne's and says she loves being a part of Destination Imagination.

"it's all about coming up with good ideas and coming up with advantages and disadvantages," said Allen.

Destination Imagination is a non-profit, volunteer-led organization. Their mission is to inspire and equip students to become the next generation of innovators and leaders.

Global finals attracts more than 1200 teams from all across the globe. More than 16,000 people are expected to attend.

The St. Anne students will be carrying the South Carolina flag in the opening ceremonies on May 21st. The students have been able to compete thanks to an out pouring of community support.
