Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Some much needed rain will move into the Midlands later today followed by drier and cooler weather Midweek.
Today a cold a front will approach the area and bring us scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening hours. The best chance for rain will be between 2 PM and 8 PM.
Some of the of thunderstorms may become strong or even severe, right now the greatest risk from any severe thunderstorm that develops would be damaging winds.
The front is expected to move through the Midlands Tuesday night and then stall out along the coast, some drier air will filter in behind the front, but a chance for a shower or storm will still be possible on Wednesday and Thursday.
Towards the end of the week and into the weekend, the stalled front may lift back closer to the Midlands, this will give us more chances of showers and storms Friday through Sunday.
High temperatures Wednesday through Sunday are expected to be slightly below normal, topping out in the upper 80s and low 90s.
