NEWBERRY, S.C. - Officers from the Newberry County Sheriff's Office and South Carolina Highway Patrol were conducting a safety check point on Highway 219 about 1:00am when a vehicle with two people in it approached the point. The officers immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Officers then tried to detain the two suspects, and the passenger was apprehended after a short foot chase. Once the passenger was secured, deputies found two grams of crack cocaine, a small quantity of marijuana and $340 in cash. The driver and vehicle were then searched, where they found two Hydrocodone pills (a controlled substance) and a crack pipke that belonged to the driver.
Both men were arrested and taken to Newberry County Dentention Center. Those arrested were identified as:
Rishawn Terrell Harmon, 26, of 2545 Rosalyn Drive, Newberry. He was charged with Possession with Intent To Distribute Crack Cocaine 2nd Offense, Possession of Marijuana, and Resisting Arrest. Harmon has a prior drug conviction for Distribution of Cocaine.
Willie Earl Nance, 60, of 17 JB Fulmer Court, Newberry, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
