USC Opens Dorms to College of Charleston Students

Charleston Students Take Refuge at USC

Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The University of South Carolina's campus is closed, but when students along the coast needed to take shelter, they generously opened their doors.

This week, 49 students and 10 faculty members from College of Charleston headed to Columbia to stay in dorms across campus as they wait out the storm.

A few resident mentors also open their dorms to room with the evacuees.

Josh Wise with university housing says they want to make College of Charleston students feel right at home at USC.

"We've provided every need that they possibly had," Wise said. "We had toiletries available, linens, meal plans, events for them to take part in."

USC provided meal vouchers to the Charleston students and also allowed them to use any facilities like gyms and movie rooms.

Although the school is closed, tutoring services and academic programs remain in place as USC students prepare for midterms.
