Campground Goes From Having About 115 Tenants To Almost 40

Meanwhile nearby campgrounds were counting on all the business coming from the plant and now they're left scrambling to figure out what they'll do with the property.

Winnsboro, SC (WLTX) - The Broad River Campground went from having about 115 tenants to 40 after the V.C. Nuclear Power Plant closed its doors.

Co-owner D Melton says he still feels like he's in a bad dream, "total shock, total surprise, it was like it wasn't real to hear it" he said. "The demand was really strong and about the time it was set they ended the project."

Melton had just added 80 new campsites all for the V.C. Summer employees and now most of them are all gone.

Melton says he's now looking to add ATV recreation and make the grounds more of a recreation hotspot for Lake Murray and Lake Monticello.

With the eclipse coming up, Melton is pushing the campground as a destination. He hopes this will help him recover, at least for a little while.
