SCDOT truck crashed into Columbia home

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A work truck crashed into a home along Rosewood Drive late Tuesday morning, causing some serious damage to the structure.

The collision happened around 11 a.m. in the 3900 block of Rosewood.

According to witnesses, the vehicle collided with a Honda, then went into the home, denting in a portion of the front wall and the door. Despite the damage, no serious injuries were reported.

Two University of South Carolina students were inside, however, sleeping.

"[We] woke up to a loud noise in the house, felt the house rattling," said Michael Shriver, one of the two men. "We ran into the den and saw debris everywhere, the front wall's down."

The two said they're going to have to go somewhere else to stay for a couple of weeks until the home can be repaired.

Elizabeth La Valley says she was in a passenger in the vehicle, and said she was on her way to school when the collision happened.

"We were going to school and we got hit by the truck and spun around," she said.

Columbia police have cited the driver of the work truck with running a red light.
