Grandmother Charged After Toddler Killed by Pit Bulls

Hartwell, GA (WSPA) - A Georgia grandmother is facing charges after her toddler grandchild was mauled to death by two pit bulls at her home.

Officers say 70-year-old Sandra Bowers Adams has been charged with second-degree murder, cruelty to children, and involuntary manslaughter, according to a report from WSPA.

Hartwell Police Chief Anthony Davis told the station that they'd gotten a report that a child had been bitten and been taken to an urgent care center. When they arrived, they said they found that the boy had several bites and tears to his head and neck.

Davis said she had not received complaints about the dogs before, except for barking. He said he's not sure if the child actually lived at the home or was just visiting.

The dogs have been taken to kennels for testing.
