Shaw Air Force Base, SC (WLTX) - An airman at Shaw Air Force base has died after suffering a medical condition while home on leave.

Shaw officials confirmed Friday that Tech Sergeant Kenneth E. Moore Jr., 36, died at Tuomey Hospital Thursday.

Moore was home for 30 days on a deployment mid-tour leave. He was visiting his wife and children.

Moore apparently began having medical problems at home, and was taken to the hospital where he passed away. The base says he died of a bilateral pulmonary embolism, which is a blockage of the main artery of the lung.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and co-workers of Tech. Sgt. Moore during this difficult time," said Col. Clay Hall, 20th Fighter Wing commander. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of a Team Shaw member and are focused on taking care of the family at this time."

A memorial is being planned for Moore.
