Columbia, SC (WLTX)  The University of South Carolina will increase both in-state and out of state tuition for the 2013 school year.

Tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates on the Columbia campus will increase by $160.00, or $5,244 per semester.   For out of state undergraduates, tuition will increase by $646.00 for a total of $12,298.00 per semester.

"Across the system we are expanding student opportunities and student services, building on our academic success and maintaining access and afffordability for South Carolinians, " said USC president Harris Pastides.  "We are sensitive to the economic realities faced by families across the state, and we have worked hard to limit the additional financial contribution we ask from our students."

The budget will increase tuition at most campuses, it is the smallest increase in thirteen years.

The budget will go before the full board for final approval on June 29.
