Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Some of the deadliest area to travel in South Carolina's are right here in the Midlands.
A new report from the state Department of Public Safety says Lexington County leads the state in number of traffic fatalities with 32.
Rounding out the top counties were Greenville County with 27, Spartanburg County with 25 and Richland and Charleston Counties tieing with 23.
Those numbers are from the beginning of the year until Sunday at midnight.
So far this year there have been more than 388 traffic fatalities in our state.
That's slightly up from the 386 killed on state roadways during this same period in 2011.
The report said of the 260 killed in motor vehicles this year, 167 did not have on a seat belt.
SCDPS also said during this time period 55 motorcyclist, 47 pedestrians and 11 bicyclists died on state roads and highways.
