(FLORIDA TODAY) - A pink-haired, 21-year-old Cocoa man wearing 'Joker'-styled makeup, a leather jacket and boots was taken into custody this morning after walking into a Melbourne movie theater, police said.

The man, identified as Christopher Sides, was arrested on an unrelated failure to appear warrant.

"It was a little bit out of the ordinary," said Sgt. Sheridan Shelley, a spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department, of the incident.

"Usually, you would have people come in costume for a first night showing but not during the morning. In this case, we had a guy show up in Joker-styled makeup, wearing a black leather jacket, jeans and boots. He was definitely drawing attention to himself. He didn't have any weapons."

Police said Sides strolled up to the counter, in the outfit and purchased a single ticket for "The Expendables 2," an action movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwazenegger, Bruce Willis and others.

A concerned movie-goer at Premiere Oaks 10 Theaters, 1800 West Hibiscus Blvd, spotted Sides and immediately told the general manager who contacted police. Patrol officers quickly surrounded the theater and questioned Sides.

The incident comes nearly two months after a deadly shooting at a Colorado theater's showing of a "Batman" movie led to the deaths of 12 people and a wave of scares and security concerns at movie theaters across the nation. No weapons were found in Wednesday's incident.

The suspected shooter in that case, James Holmes, walked into a crowded theater wearing Joker makeup and with pink hair. He later told law enforcement agents that he was "the Joker," a villain featured in Batman comic books and movies, police reported in that case.
