Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- We've all heard of having a bucket list, or, a list of items you'd like to accomplish before you die. But for 27-year-old Mickiala Williams, she's added an unusual twist.
Forget trying to do all the things you want to do in life before you die, Mickiala Williams has created her own deadline.
"I have a bucket list of what I wanted to do," said Williams. "I want to do thirty things before I turn thirty."
She's already crossed off starting her own marketing company and parasailing, but with just three years to go, Williams has a long way to go to accomplish her hefty goals.
"But when I turn thirty I'll say, there's forty things before I turn forty. It's just what I do," said Williams.
She would soon get the chance to mark off her biggest wish. Last year, Williams was told by her mom that her uncle collapsed and was in the hospital.
"She broke the news to me that my uncle needed a kidney due to his high blood pressure."
First on Williams list: donate an organ to someone deserving. "So my uncle came available, and that was my opportunity."
Williams went to Emory University in Atlanta, going through extensive health tests and blood work. She found out that she's a perfect match.
"I had to take the "I" and put in the "We." I didn't hesitate at all. I just felt the need to help."
After months of planning and a few short hours in surgery, the kidney took. Williams says before the transplant her uncle would have very little energy, but now?
"The second day of us being in the hospital he was up walking, passing my room. I'm like oh no. I had to call my nurse I said I've got to get up and walk how is he up before me!"
It may not be a bucket list, but a way for William's to give back, giving her uncle the biggest gift of all: the ability to continue marking items off his own list.
"A lot of people say I'm scared, I'm fearful. It's not really for everybody. But if you want to step up to the plate and make a difference and do what needs to be done, go for it."
Since the transplant surgery, Williams' uncle is now able two walk two miles and even eat peanuts, something he wasn't able to do before. After they both fully recover, they say they plan on taking a vacation cruise, another item on Mickiala's bucket list.
