Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) - South Carolina State University has named three finalists to be the school's next president.
The university said Friday that Thomas Elzey, E. Newton Jackson, and Leonard McIntyre are in the running for the school's top post.
Elzey is currently the Executive Vice President for Finance, Administration, and Operations at The Citadel. Jackson is the Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of North Florida, and McIntyre is the Interim Dean of the College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences at South Carolina State.
SC State Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Walter L. Tobin says the school hopes to have a new president appointed by next month and have that person on the job by July 1st.
The school's been without a permanent president since George Cooper resigned in March of 2012. Cynthia Warrick is serving as interim.
Last month, students held a protest calling for Warrick to be chosen as the new president.
