Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A Columbia teenager has been charged with felony DUI after his 16-year-old brother was killed in an early morning car accident.
According to Lance Cpl. Brent Kelly with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 2:10 a.m. on Shallow Brook Drive in Columbia. Kelly says Cameron Stringfellow, 18, was traveling west in a 2012 BMW, when he hit a legally parked car, ran off the right side of the road, and crashed into several trees.
According to Highway Patrol, there were two passengers in the vehicle: an 18-year-old in the front seat and Cameron Stringfellow's brother, identified as John Corey Stringfellow, who was in the back seat. Officials say all three were wearing seatbelts and were taken to Palmetto Health.
Corey Stringfellow was pronounced dead at the hospital. Cameron Stringfellow and the front seat passenger suffered only minor injuries.
News19 has learned Cameron and Corey Stringfellow were students at Spring Valley High School.
According to Richland County Bond Court, Cameron Stringfellow has been released from Richland County Detention Center on a Personal Recognizance Bond of $100,000.
