Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Waverly Historic District is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its annexation.
Community leaders gathered Thursday celebrate at the Bishop Memorial AME Church on Washington Street.
The district received a Congressional Record Tribute from Representative James Clyburn, as well as recognitions from the State House, and local government leaders. The neighborhood is home to Allen University and five churches.
The Waverly District is considered to be Columbia's first suburb, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
