Hopkins, SC (WLTX) - With every splash this summer, your family could be in danger because of a loophole in state law we uncovered.

In South Carolina, residential pool builders don't need a license to build a pool. Original Story: No Licence Needed to Build Pool with State Loophole

"One of the biggest frustrations is not having what I paid for," said Dr. Kristina Hursey.

Hursey has had problems with the contractor she hired to build her pool.  He didn't have a license and didn't need one.

Contractor Mike Brewer was ticketed by Richland County for an ordinance violation that says he didn't have a qualification card needed for some of the work done at Hursey's home.

Brewer was scheduled for court Monday but paid his $1092.00 ticket on Friday.

To help prevent situations like this one from happening in the future, South Carolina Senator John Scott tells News19 he wants to change the law to increase accountability.
