Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Kaycee Nabors found out just minutes after her baby was born that her child was in need of a heart transplant. Now that family is waiting, and hoping a phone call will come any day with news of a potential match, to begin surgery.

For all the parents out there it is hard to imagine being helpless when it comes to keeping your child healthy. But that is exactly how Kacyee says she feels as each day passes, waiting for the phone call, that could save her daughters life.

"She was born on April 20th, 2009. She had her first surgery at four days old," said Nabors.

With each passing minute inside the Nabors family home, patience is a virtue, but also a hefty weight. The time is a grim reminder of the reality, that her smiling three year old daughter Dixiann may not make it to see her next birthday.

"Her bottom chamber of her left heart didn't develop all the way. So we had to take the right side and use it for her whole entire body."

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a rare type of congenital heart disease. Dixiann has to take 6 different medicines and carry this bag with a line attached to her arm to keep her heart from overworking.

You can imagine the helpless feeling Kaycee had learning her daughter needs a new heart.

"One of the things running through my head when they told me, am I going to have her two weeks from now? Four weeks from now? How long is this medicine that is going to be running through her arm going to last," said Nabors. "It's really hard to cope with. Having your three year old daughter going through all this. No baby should be able to go through it."

As trips to Charleston turn into month long stays at MUSC, medical bills are pilling up. Kaycee is holding out hope that good news will soon come.

"We could be at home sleeping when we get a phone call saying to pack our stuff up to come on to Charleston. We never know when it's going to be."

Patience may be a virtue, but time is priceless. Kaycee knows better this than most, that at any moment, a phone call could mean prolonging the heartbeat of Dixiann.

"I want somebody to step up and say here, here's a heart for you. I wish it was that easy instead of us waiting this long."

The Nabors believe they are near the top of the heart transplant list, however tonight, they continue to wait.
