That didn't take long.
The Los Angeles Police Department announced Thursday morning that they have made an arrest in the vandalism case surrounding Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame a day earlier.
Officer Andrew Chambers told the Associated Press that Jamie Otis was apprehended on suspicion of felony vandalism. It's not yet known whether he has a lawyer.
Before dawn on Wednesday, Otis took a hammer and pickax to the Republican presidential nominee's star, smashing his name and the camera icon in the center of the star on Hollywood Boulevard.
He said he had originally intended to remove the star completely and auction it off on Election Day to aid the women who have lodged sexual assault complaints against Trump. The candidate has denied the groping allegations and threatened to sue his accusers.
Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president Leron Gubler announced Wednesday that it would replace the star immediately but that the work would take several days to complete.
He added that his group intends to prosecute the vandal to the full extent of the law, an action they would undertake "for any Walk of Fame star that has been vandalized."
