Ravenel to Officially Appear on Senate Ballot

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Businessman and reality tv star Thomas Ravenel will be on the ballot for November's U.S. Senate race.

Chris Whitmire, a spokesperson for the State Election Commission, confirmed Wednesday that Ravenel's petition campaign had been certified.

Last month, Ravenel presented the commission with 17,000 that he'd collected. Ravenel joins incumbent Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, Democrat Brad Hutto, and Liberterian Victor Kocher in race for the seat.

Ravenel was elected as the South Carolina State Treasurer in 2006, but had to resign just months into office because of his indictment on a federal drug charge. He later pled guilty and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

He currently works as a real-estate developer. Recently, he appeared on the Bravo reality tv series, "Southern Charm," which follows around a group of wealthy Charleston residents and their escapades in the city.

Ravenel said last month that he will appear in the second season of the series.
