Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County Council approved the contract for the proposed water park in northeast Richland County late Tuesday night during a special meeting.
Councilman Seth Rose was the only member to vote against the contract.
Rose said his issue is whether or not the project will be financially stable.
"Right now, projections are that it would take 12 years for it to ever be profitable," Rose said. "For me it just doesn't make good financial sense to invest $20 million that we don't have into a project that they're saying even under friendly estimates will take 12 years to be profitable."
Throughout the meeting council went into executive session twice.
Among the items on the agenda council also approved the second reading of a separate item. The separate item is a fee-in-lieu of tax agreement between Richland County and "Project Oro".
The name of the company associated with this project has not been released.
The project has a potential impact of $400 million spanning ten years.
