SC Sub Teacher Faces Charges Involving Student

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A substitute teacher at Hilton Head Island High School has been arrested and charged with having an improper relationship with a student.

Twenty-three-year-old Margaret Ann LaMantia was arrested Tuesday and charged with sending inappropriate pictures to a 16-year-old student.

Beaufort County sheriff's deputies charged LaMantia with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and disseminating harmful material to a minor. It was not clear if she has a lawyer.

School district spokesman Jim Foster says LaMantia no longer works for the school. Foster says she had been a long-term substitute Spanish teacher.

The student's parents filed a complaint with the school resource officer about what they thought was an inappropriate relationship between LaMantia and their son.

Investigators say she sent the pictures in late November.
