Lexington, SC (WLTX)-  Owens Baston said a Midlands construction company was an answer to his prayers.

"It's unbelievable," said Baston.  "I thought I had lost $4,724 and these people came in and offered to make up for that."

Baston was one of many American Shingle customers who lost thousands after the company shut its doors without completing the work they were paid to do.

International Construction Services saw Baston's story last month on News 19 and decided to call on others in the community to help clean up another company's mess.

"We've have helped already over 21 customers that have been harmed by American Shingle," said Milton Posada, owner of ICS.

Posada said he called Tom Haycox, owner of Roofing Supply Group of Columbia, to see if he could ask various distributors to lower their prices in order to reduce cost.

"Doing something like this from a business perspective is just a good thing," said Haycox.

Posada and Haycox said they will either break even or lose money on these jobs.  However, they hope this effort will show the community that companies with integrity, honesty, and good business practices do exist.

"When he came in, I kinda had my doubts at first," Baston said.  "But, he came through.  They came through."

Baston said that even though this has been a happy ending to what he thought would be a neverending nightmare, he will never forget one very important thing.

"Paid American Shingle before they ever started and that was a mistake.  Now I have learned a lesson."
