Richland County, SC (WLTX) - One person is dead after a car crash on I-77 Sunday.
The Highway Patrol says it happened around 11:30 a.m. in the southbound lane of I-77 at mile marker 21, near Killian Road.
We're told that the driver of a 2002 Nissan Altima was traveling in the northbound lane when she lost control, crossed the median, and hit a 2006 Dodge Charger traveling southbound head-on.
The driver of the Altima was ejected from the vehicle. She was taken to Palmetto Richland, where she was pronounced dead.
The coroner identified her as 22-year-old Ronniece Kirby.
There were four passengers in her car, who were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The condition of 21-year-old Alvin Squirewell, the driver of the Dodge Charger, is unknown.
Sergeant Kelley Hughes says that Squirewell was wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the Altima was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Highway Patrol is still investigating, but a witness statement suggests that the driver of the Altima was driving recklessly prior to the accident.
