Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have arrested a man they say attacked two victims with a machete.

Jose Hernandez Mendez, 26, is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill and assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

An arrest warrant claims that back on September 20, 2008 Mendez hit a man on the back with the flat side of a machete at a home near Gaston. On May 5, 2009, investigators say Mendez used a machete to cut a man on the head and hand at a home in Lexington.

Mendez turned himself over to deputies on Wednesday. 

Sheriff James Metts says corrections officers determined that Mendez is in the country illegally from Mexico, and a detainer has been placed on him by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
