Cayce, SC (WLTX) - While some spend their time clipping coupons, Joe Cox looks for pictures and headlines in the newspaper.
"People know me as Joe but most of the time when they see me they say 'Hat Man where is your hat?" said Cox.
The Hat Man is always busy during Gamecock Football and Baseball Seasons.
"I make sports hats, holiday hats. "
And let's just say once you see one, your will never forget it.
"They are large hats...Walking Billboards."
It all started when the Gamecocks won their first National Championship in 2010.
"I am a big fan of Carolina," said Cox. "Three bedrooms full of hats. "
He's made hundreds of hats, from Steve Spurrier to St. Patrick's Day, and even one for the royal wedding.
"Some people think I am crazy."
But the Hat Man says its all for the team he loves.
"I'll get ready and walk down the street and put this on and its game time. "
It takes him about two hours to finish a hat, but he says the newspapers do all the work.
"Sometimes I might already have some pictures from the year before and I throw it all together but I never know how it is going to end until I finish really. "
When he found out there was going to be a parade for the Gamecocks he made a hat and went downtown.
"I wasn't trying to get noticed but Coach Tanner threw me a shirt. "
His tradition has been to put three baseballs on his hats... the 3rd one with a question mark... hoping that the Gamecocks can do something remarkable.
"I hope they win. "
