Cayce, SC (WLTX) - Saturday teams went on a scavenger hunt around Columbia for charity.

"The scavengers are going to go all around town they are going to collect some items, they are going to take pictures," said Tara Young.

This wasn't your children's backyard scavenger hunt, it's a race around Columbia to find a number of items in order for your team to win.

It was the 4th year that the Cayce West Columbia Jaycees have done a Congaree Quest Scavenger Hunt. Tara Young with the Jaycees says they are having fun but its for a bigger reason.

"We are doing this for Children's Chance and our goal is to help provide an evening with the Gamecocks for a child that is suffering from cancer."

The evening out with the team will allow the children meet USC Head Football Coach Steve Spurrier and the players, get autographs and just forget about their medical conditions.

"For me I do it because it makes me feel good."

The event was dedicated to Bayler Teal. Teal, who inspired the Gamecocks baseball team to their first national championship, died two years ago after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Young says despite the rain, the teams wanted to help kids fell normal for at least one day.

"It has been pouring rain since this morning and we were scared that it wasn't going to happen but I think it gives them an opportunity to participate in."

Young believes if more people would take the time to give back our community would change in a good way.

"If everyone would take a little of their time and give a piece back to their community we can all make a difference, that's why our chapter comes together and we do these events. "
