Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say one of their officers had to shoot a suspect during a domestic dispute early Friday morning.
The incident took place around 12 a.m. at an apartment at 1810 Allen Benedict Court.
Dispatch got a call of a domestic argument at that location from a third party. The responding officer says when he arrived at the apartment, he could hear the assault taking place. He says he saw the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Anthony Antron Walker, physically assaulting a female victim.
The officer said he tried to subdue the Walker; however, police say Walker challenged the officer and tried to grab his service weapon. The officer then fired his gun, hitting the suspect.
Walker was taken to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital for treamnet, and his condition is not yet known.
As is standard procedure for all officer-involved shootings, the State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
