Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jake O'Brien scored 15 points, leading
five players in double figures, as the Temple Owls took out the Bowling Green
Falcons, 75-57, for the 1,800th win in program history.
Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson and Scootie Randall both added 11 points, the latter
clearing 10 rebounds as well for the Owls (10-2) as they posted their second
straight win and the fourth in the last five outings. Also having strong
efforts for Temple were Anthony Lee and Dalton Pepper with 10 points apiece,
the former capturing 10 rebounds as well.
Khalif Wyatt, who entered the contest as the leading scorer for the Owls with
16.2 ppg, was limited to seven points on only 1-of-7 shooting from the floor,
although he did hand out eight assists in 30 minutes of action.
The Falcons (5-8) were paced by A'uston Calhoun who scored a game-high 22
points and also pulled down nine boards, but he was the only double-digit
scorer for the program as they lost their fourth in a row.
Temple opened the meeting on a 12-6 run and eventually led by as many as 16
when O'Brien knocked down a 3-pointer at the 2:43 mark, before settling in
with a 39-25 advantage at the break.
In the second half the Owls continued to play well at the defensive end of the
floor, taking a 29-point advantage with just over three minutes remaining, en
route to the 18-point victory.
Temple recorded a season-high 23 assists in the outing and held the visitors
to only 37.7 percent success from the floor overall, including 4-of-16 behind
the 3-point line.
One of only 10 Division I programs with at least 1,700 all-time victories,
Temple is currently sixth on the all-time list behind Kentucky, Kansas, North
Carolina, Duke and Syracuse.
