El Paso, TX (Sports Network) - Konner Tucker shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the
free-throw line en route to 18 points as the Texas-El Paso Miners downed the
Marshall Thundering Herd, 74-63, in a Conference USA tilt at the Don Haskins
Center.
Jacques Streeter and McKenzie Moore each poured in 14 points for UTEP (8-6,
2-0 C-USA), which has won five of its last six. John Bohannon scored 13 points
and collected eight boards for the hosts.
Dennis Tinnon scored 19 points on an efficient 6-of-7 field goal shooting to
lead Marshall (8-9, 1-1), while DeAndre Kane and Elijah Pittman each scored 11
points. D.D. Scarver went for 10 points but shot just 2-of-9 from the floor.
UTEP dominated the glass in the first half, outrebounding the Herd 21-9
while holding a 4-1 offensive rebounding edge. The Miners also shot 46.2
percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and took a 31-24 advantage at
the break.
UTEP improved its field goal shooting to 50 percent in the second half as it
extended its lead to as many as 20.
Both teams were solid from the foul line, with UTEP shooting 23-of-30 and
Marshall going 17-of-25. The Miners lead the Herd 8-2 in the all-time series.
