Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Monday, June 24th at 10PM the Stephen King-based CBS mini-series Under The Dome premiers on News 19 WLTX.
CBS plans an expanded offering of content for viewers, including online video and other electronic forms.
You can already visit www.underthedome.com to view your very own home "under the dome" - integrating Google Maps' Street View with their Under The Dome graphics - to give visitors a unique view of the address typed in.
King's novel is the story of a small Maine town suddenly cut off from the rest of the world by an enormous invisible dome, sealing in the residents, and following the resulting power struggles.
The town's need to survive in what becomes a near- post-apocalyptic environment plays out as they try to find answers to what the dome is, and how to get out.
According to reports, the CBS series will utilize the King novel as a launch pad for a slightly modified story, rather than an exact replication of the book. This presents CBS with the opportunity to keep the story going beyond the first 13 episode order.
Scott Koondel is the Senior V.P. and Chief Corporate Content Licensing Officer for CBS, and he says the show will be a "multi-platform experience for viewers who can watch on many different screens, not only their television."
The network has plans in place to offer streaming online soon after airing each week, on services such as Hulu, Amazon, or Netflix.
