Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Riverbanks Zoo has three new animals for the public to see: a gorilla and two Caribbean flamingo chicks.
The zoo made the announcement Wednesday morning.
The new gorilla is a male named Ajari. Ajari had been at the Knoxville, Tennessee zoo and was transferred to Riverbanks in January. He was born at the San Diego Zoo.
"We have spent the past several months getting Ajari acclimated to his new home and the introduction process has gone very well," said John Davis, curator of mammals at Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. "Ajari is full of personality and we are excited to have him here at Riverbanks."
Visitors to the zoo can see Ajari on exhibit daily at Riverbanks' Gorilla Base Camp.
The two flamingos were born earlier this month (June 11 and June 16), and are now on exhibit in front of the Birdhouse at Riverbanks.
The zoo has been home to flamingos since it opened in 1974.
