HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - An Ohio man says he was bitten by a shark while swimming off Hilton Head Island this week.

Authorities have not confirmed Dallas Jackson was attacked by a shark.

But the Sylvania, Ohio, man has no doubt he was bitten. Jackson says he was standing in waist-deep water Monday when something brushed against his leg and then tug at him.

Once he made it out of the water, he saw blood and a piece of skin hanging from his leg above his ankle.

Jackson received about a dozen stitches at a local hospital.

If the bite is confirmed, it will be the fourth recorded shark attack in South Carolina this year and the second on Hilton Head Island.

None of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. On average, three shark attacks are reported each year in South Carolina.
