(New York) - Former South Carolina cornerback Fred Bennett was drafted to the Houston Texans in the 123rd overall pick Sunday.
The Manning native joins another former USC cornerback, Dunta Robinson, in Houston.
As he walked across the field of Williams-Brice Stadium Monday afternoon, he said memories of his childhood, from high school to college football. Now, he faces a professional career in the NFL.
"It really hasn't hit me yet," Bennett said Monday as he spoke with Matt Barrie, "I've just been relaxing, but I'm sure when it sinks in, it'll hit me real hard."
When the NFL does hit, Bennett will surely recall the hard work it took to get him to football's top spot.
"I could always look up... and see my parents up there," Bennett remembers his days on the field.
The fact is, Bennett won't leave Columbia as an all time great, but he is another in a long line of USC defensive backs to go pro.
Bennett earned Honorable Mention SEC Honors after his senior season, and played in the 2001 Shrine Bowl his senior year of high school.
In Fred Bennett's world, only two things matter: he's getting his shot, and he's on top of the world.
