Richardson Released from Jail

(Columbia) - USC freshman defensive lineman Quintin Richardson has been suspended indefinitely from the team, following his arrest on a marijuana possession charge.

Richardson's bond was set at a $2500 PR bond Saturday morning. He was released Saturday afternoon.

Around 7 p.m. Friday night, the Richland County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of shots fired at Hunter's Green Apartments. When they arrived, four individuals were found around a car. An investigation found that one man, Richardson, had marijuana in his pocket. Richardson was arrested for possession and taken to the Richland County Jail.

An eyewitness who didn't want to give his identity spoke to News19. "Richland County came out here some minutes later and started searching everybody that was outside," the man said. "He(Richardson) had a little marijuana in his pocket and got caught with it. Simple as that. He owned up to it, said he had it, said he knew he was in trouble."

Richardson's lawyer Neal Lourie did not want to comment on the case late Friday night, and again declined comment following Richardson's bond hearing on Saturday.

Richardson was just recently involved in a high-profile incident. On June 24, Richardson was stabbed during a fight, also at the Hunter's Green Apartments, that began over a girl. Ross Grant, 19, was charged with assault and battery with intent to kill for the stabbing. Grant willingly turned himself over to authorities. Richardson was found to have not been the instigator and faced no charges.

Richardson is a highly regarded USC recruit from Spring Valley High School.

At this time, USC has not released a comment about Richardson's arrest. The university athletics department says USC Head Coach Steve Spurrier is out of town but aware of what has happened. A source close to the situation says Richardson is suspended indefinitely pending the results of the investigation.
