(Sumter) - Anderson County deputies have arrested a Sumter man who they say was trying to solicit underage sex from what he thought was a minor.
Eugene Hewitt, 33, has been charged with criminal solicitation of a minor. He was taken into custody on Tuesday.
Deputies say that beginning on May 31 of this year, Hewitt soliticed sex online with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl. It was actually an undercover deputy.
Hewitt faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
