West Columbia (WLTX) - Dawn Dunn is speaking out about the circumstances that led authorities on Thanksgiving Day to sieze 41 dogs in her care, two of which were dead.

Animal control officials say the conditions were less than acceptable. Dunn refused to talk on camera, but in a phone interview she says the problems started in July when unexpected family and medical issues popped up.

Dunn says she realized she wouldn't be able to maintain the animals. That's when she says she spoke with Lexington County Animal Control officials about the possibility of taking the dogs.

She claims they agreed, but weeks later Dunn says officials told her to drop the dogs off because they were too busy. Dunn says transportation problems made that impossible to do. When we spoke with Lexington County Animal Control Director Joe Mergo, he told us that because this is an ongoing investigation, he could not say if any of this is true.

However, we did find that Dunn has had several businesses based from her home, including a pet training service and a breeding company. A website, Legacysprings.com, shows dogs that are in much better condition than the ones taken from her home last Thursday.

As this investigation continues, Dunn say that she does not want the dogs back and hopes that they can be placed in good homes.
