West Columbia (WLTX) -- Lexington County animal control officers have charged a woman with 41 counts of ill-treatment of animals, after they say they found dozens of mistreated and dead dogs on her property.
Dawn Mohead, 46, was arrested Friday. She's been released on a $41,000 personal recognizance bond.
Lexington County Animal Services Coordinator Joe Mergo says 38 dogs were found alive, and three were found dead, on Mohead's property on Thanksgiving Day.
Mergo says some of those animals which were found alive have been euthanized. He won't go into the specifics of the case, but he says the animals were in 'less than desirable' conditions.
As News19 reported Thursday, crews were out Thursday draining a pool on the property, but Mergo says no dead animals were found there.
He says the animals which are alive will remain in custody until the case is heard. That's set to happen on January 7 in a magistrate's court.
Mergo says Mohead has been cooperative in this investigation.
