Lower Richland County (WLTX) - Richland School District One officials say a Lower Richland High School substitute teacher caught two students engaged in sexual activity last Friday.
Richland One spokesperson Karen York said Thursday that the students were on their way to lunch when they detoured into an unoccupied classroom. The substitute then walked in on the two. She reported that the two were involved in sexual activity.
The girl and boy are 16-years-old.
The district determined that their actions were consensual, and the principal had them suspended immediately.
The Richland One School Board will have to determine their fate. That will happen 10 days after the incident. The board has several options ranging from a warning to expulsion.
News 19 caught up with a few students inside Movie Gallery on Garners Ferry... choosing between an action or drama story.
But when Fabian Scott heard about the real-life story at his school... he had little reaction. "Stuff happens it's just happens to be Lower Richland," says Scott. Scott says his school gets a bad rap. "You don't ever hear anything good and it's not really the school; it's just at times people make stupid decisions," adds Scott. Richland One's district says Friday two students went into an empty class, when they were supposed to be at lunch. "The substitue teacher entered the classroom and discovered these students engaged in sexual activity," says Richland One Spokeswoman Karen York. The sub notified the principal and the students were suspended pending an expulsion hearing. "Obviously expulsion is the maximum penalty but some lesser action could be taken ranging from a warning, probation or students could be sent to an alternative program," adds York. Sometime next week a decision will be made, meanwhile the only limitations on Fabian's agenda are the ones he sets. "A school doesn't define you; only you do. I'm looking to own my own business one day and work for myself," Scott adds.
