(Columbia) - Thousands of years ago palms acted as a royal carpet for a Savior who many believe saved the world. Today, ashes from these palms are a reminder of how we will all leave this earth. With out-stretched hands and open hearts Christians at Saint David's Episcopal Church reverence a power greater their own. "It's God's hands taking care of his people," says C.J. Bilka. For Bilka, lent is more than a season. He created a ministry called "His hands" feeding the hungry and clothing the poor every Saturday. "Whether it rains or shines we are there and haven't missed a Saturday in five years," adds Bilka. "The lenten theme is one of self-examination, amendment of life and servanthood," says Father Bob Chiles. Chiles says it's not just giving up but also taking on things. "Give up things like bitterness and unforgiveness and reclaim passion for people," adds Chiles. "If you didn't have seasons in life you could set aside as special then everytime would be ordinary or common," But for C.J. Bilka, it is common, only because it's a lifestyle.
