Police Arrest Three for Tax Return Shooting

Winnsboro (WLTX) -- Winnsboro police have arrested three men they say are responsible for shooting a 56-year-old man in the chest after he bragged about his tax return.

Chief Wayne Yates with the Winnsboro Police Department says three men were arrested Wednesday, but he expects more as the investigation continues.

Police arrested 22-year-old Marvin Workman and 17-year-old Darion McDuffie and charged them each with assault and battery with intent to kill and attempted armed robbery.

Todd Robinson, 27, was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact.

Investigators say Workman shot 56-year-old Willie Clarence Yarborough in the back at a home on Zion Street in Winnsboro. Police believe the shooting was the result of an argument after Yarborough closed a storm door on the suspects.

That's when police say Workman opened fire on Yarborough, hitting him in the back.

Police believe the argument was over a tax return Yarborough had received.

Yarborough was sent to the hospital, and had is listed in critical condition. Since then, he has had two surgeries, including one on Tuesday.

Investigators are following several leads. Police do not believe other residents in the area are at risk, because they say the crime was targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-559-TIPS.
