SPARTANBURG COUNTY (WSPA, WLTX) -- The Spartanburg County Sheriff?s Office has arrested a woman and her boyfriend after they allegedly abused a three month old infant, WSPA is reporting.
Elizabeth Ellen Edwards, 19, and her boyfriend, 21-year old Brady Scott Gossett, both of 685 North Highway in Pacolet, were arrested and charged with child abuse.
According to an incident report, Sheriff?s deputies responded to the couple?s address late Friday night after receiving complaints about possible child abuse. When deputies arrived, Edwards was involved in an argument with the child?s grandparents over injuries that the child allegedly sustained last Monday.
Edwards told officers that last Monday she had noticed that her three month old daughter had bruised cheeks and a swollen eye. In the report, Edwards says that Gossett took care of the child all day long last Monday and the child was fine when she went to work in the morning. Edwards also told officers that when she returned home later that afternoon, she noticed her child's injuries.
The report states that when the child?s grandparents came over for a visit Friday night, they noticed the injuries and an argument ensued over whether the child should have been sent to the hospital. The grandparents took the child to Spartanburg Regional Hospital and authorities have placed the infant in emergency protective custody.
