Newberry Judge Charged with Embezzlement

Newberry County (WLTX) -- SLED agents have a arrested a 43-year-old associate probate judge, after they say she embezzled more than $1,000 of public funds.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agents arrested 43-year-old Rebecca Ann Allen of Silverstreet and charged her with embezzlement of public funds over $1,000.

Investigators say Allen embezzled funds while working in the Newberry County Probate Judge's Office. They say on several occasions, Allen took funds and made duplicate receipts for them.

Authorities did not say how much money was embezzled from the judge's office.

Allen is being held at the Newberry County jail.
