Victim Identified in North Main Street Accident

COLUMBIA (WLTX) ? Columbia Police are investigating a fatal accident on North Main Street at I-20.

Police say that on Monday afternoon, a moped and a Mitsubishi car were involved in the accident at the intersection of North Main Street and the I-20 west ramp.

News19 is told that the Mitsubishi car was attempting to turn onto the interstate ramp when the driver failed to yield the right of way to the moped. The moped was then hit, killing the person on-board.

The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Johnny Fletcher.

Columbia Police Department spokesman Brick Lewis says no charges have been filed at this time. The driver of the car was transported to a local hospital for injuries.

Police say the accident was cleaned up by 6:45 p.m. and that traffic is moving smoothly.
