Navy Sailor Killed in Car Accident

GREENWOOD (WLTX, WSPA) - A Navy sailor is dead after an early morning car accident in the Upstate.

According to the Greenwood County Coroner, four members of the United States Navy were on their way from Virginia to South Carolina to attend the graduation of the driver's sister.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says that the four-door Mazda lost control in a curve on Blue Jay Lane and hit a tree.

The four people in the vehicle were identified as follows:

  • Courtney R. Williams, 19, of Lancaster, Texas. She was riding in the passenger seat and was transported to a local hospital and is listed in the critical care unit. She was wearing a seat belt.

  • Robert Roundtree, Jr, of Madison, Florida. He was riding in the seat behind the passenger seat and was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital and is listed in good condition. He was not wearing a seat belt .

  • Serquiz N. Harris, 21, of Abbeville, SC was the driver. He was airlifted to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he is in critical condition. He was not wearing a seat belt.

  • The male passenger who was sitting in the back seat behind the driver was found deceased at the accident scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The name of the deceased has not been released until family is notified.

Highway Patrol says the road was blocked for approximately 5 hours as the MAIT team was called out to investigate.
