Group Offers Chance to Recycle Phone Books

Columbia (WLTX) -- A Midlands conservation group says they are providing residents an opportunity to recycle telephone books at more than 20 locations in Lexington and Richland Counties.

Officials with Keep the Midlands Beautiful say the effort is scheduled to last from February 1st to March 15, 2009.

If you would like to help, you can visit any of these locations to recycle the books:

Richland and Lexington County Telephone Book Recycling Drop-off Locations (alphabetical by city)

Blythewood

--> Blythewood Branch, U.S. Post Office - 401 McNulty St., Blythewood, SC 29016 (near the intersection of Blythewood Rd. and Boney Rd.)

Cayce

--> City of Cayce Public Safety Department - 1800 12th St. Extension, Cayce, SC 29171

Columbia

--> A Recycling Center - 1009 Fontaine Rd., Columbia, SC 29223

--> Clemson Sandhill Research and Education Center - Clemson Rd. across from the entrance to First Citizens and Regent Banks at the Village at Sandhill.

--> Fort Jackson Recycling Center - Building #6568 on Lee Road, Fort Jackson, off Imboden Rd. Enter the Fort through Forest Dr. entrance; be prepared to show valid driver's license, proof of insurance and current auto registration.

--> Harbison Sam's Club - 350 Harbison Blvd., Columbia, SC 29212

--> Richland County C&D Landfill - 1070 Caughman Rd. North (off Monticello Rd.), Columbia, SC 29203 (Hours: Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Sat, 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.)

--> Richland County Public Works - 400 Powell Rd., Columbia, SC 29203 (Hours: Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.)

--> SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) - 2600 Bull St., Columbia, SC 29201 (Bin located in rear parking lot next to City of Columbia's recycling drop-off site)

--> University of South Carolina - parking lot at Gadsden and Greene Streets, caddy corner to Colonial Center parking lot.

Forest Acres

Lexington

--> Lexington County Collection and Recycling Centers - All 12 locations (Hours: Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.)

Lower Richland County

--> Lower Richland Recycling Drop-off Center - 10531 Garners Ferry Rd.(Hours: Mon-Sat, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sun, 12:30 to 6 p.m.)
