COLUMBIA (AP) -- Earth Day is coming up, and several South Carolina communities are getting a head start on going green.
Keep the Midlands Beautiful says residents of Richland and Lexington counties are invited to come to the University of South Carolina on Saturday to trade in gasoline-powered mowers for discounts on a cordless, electric model.
Columbia-area residents can bring televisions and computers to the Columbiana Centre for recycling at a drive put on by the South Carolina Department of Solid Waste.
And in Hopkins, residents can bring their recyclables to a festival going on downtown.
Carolina Records and Information Management is also offering free document shredding at town hall in Irmo.
Earth Day is on Wednesday.
