Clarendon County (WLTX) -- A collision two miles north of Manning sent four people to the hospital and claimed the life of one child Thursday afternoon.
According to the Highway Patrol, the incident occurred at 2:45 p.m. on US 301 near Plowden Mills Road.
Authorities say 17-year-old Andrea Coker of Alcolu was driving a 4-door sedan north on US 301 and attempted to turn left onto Plowden Mills Road. However, investigators say she failed to yield and pulled into the path of a SUV being driven by 31-year-old April Rembert of Bishopville.
Reports indicate Rembert's SUV struck Coker's sedan.
Both Rembert and her passenger, 54-year-old Marvin Farmer, were wearing seatbelts and were transported to Clarendon Memorial Hospital for their injuries.
Coker, who was wearing a seatbelt, was treated for her injuries at Clarendon Memorial as well. She was taken there along with her two child passengers.
One of those children, 10-year-old Abigail Coker, was wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries. Authorities say the other child, a 9-year-old, was not wearing a seatbelt and later passed away at the hospital.
This accident is still under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
