COLUMBIA, S.C. (WLTX, AP) -- Representative Nikki Haley confirms she's running for governor.
The Lexington Republican announced Thursday she will seek her party's nomination.
Haley represents the 87th District in Lexington County. She was first elected to her post in 2004.
She says she's wants to focus on fiscal conservatism.
"For more than five years I've sat in the State House and watched - sometimes in disbelief - as our state government has spent with abandon and in the process wasted taxpayer dollar after taxpayer dollar," Halley said. "I know what good government can look like. I'm running for Governor so the people of this state will know what it feels like."
The 2010 Republican race to replace term-limited Republican Gov. Mark Sanford is getting crowded. Sanford said Monday he's not ready to name a favorite.
Last week, Sen. Larry Grooms of Bonneau said he will join U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett and Furman University political scientist Brent Nelsen in the race. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer and Attorney General Henry McMaster are still considering bids.
